How to become a grade 7 teacher in South Africa?
You may follow one of two routes in becoming a teacher, namely: a four-year Bachelor of Education degree (B. Ed.); a three-or four-year Bachelor’s degree, followed by a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Once completed, both routes lead to classification as a professionally qualified teacher.
What are the 4 types of teachers?
The result of a wide-ranging study provides an insight into the kind of teacher you may be. According to the findings there are four major types of teachers: the idealist, the moderate, the practitioner and the rationalist.
Can I be a teacher with level 4?
If you have a Level 4 ECD qualification and teaching experience in the age group 4 to 5½ you will be requested to submit a portfolio of evidence reflecting your practical experience and any additional and relevant training. Do you qualify to apply manually? Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

These policies explain how ISASA obtains, uses and discloses information, in accordance with the requirements of the Protection of Personal Information Act (“POPIA”) and other relevant legislation.
The South African Mathematics and Science Teacher Intern Programme (SAMSTIP) is an ISASA initiative, in partnership with Investec Bank, that aims to address the critical lack of qualified mathematics and science teachers in South Africa.
SAMSTIP offers prospective Senior and Further Education and Training (FET) teachers specialising in the fields of mathematics and the sciences an opportunity to receive bursaries to study for a four-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree or a one-year Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at UNISA.
The teacher internships provide an alternative, robust training model to supply quality teachers in the scarce subject areas of mathematics and science. Based on a decade of ISASA schools’ experience, they involve school-based training, mentoring, and completion of a university degree by the trainee teachers in member schools.
School-leavers, graduates and mid-career professionals are targeted in the recruiting drive. The learnerships involve four years of study to obtain a degree in education, or two years (part-time) for a professional teaching qualification.
ISASA is unfortunately not currently accepting any new interns for the SAMSTIP programme.
