How To receive matric results via SMS OR WHATSAPP in South Africa
How to Use SMS OR WHATSAPP for Matric Results?
- Step 1: Compose a new SMS message on your phone.
- Step 2: Enter your 13-digit Exam Number as the message.
- Step 3: Send the SMS to the number 45856.
- Step 4: You will receive your results on the release date.
you can also check your matric results by:
- SMS your exam number to 45856, or
- Dial USSD code *120*45856# on your mobile phone and enter your exam number when prompted.
- The system will verify your exam number. Make sure your exam number is correct to be accepted.
- Note that learners will be charged R1-50 per SMS. Similarly, you will charged R1-50 per minute for USSD.
- Your results will be sent to your phone once they are available.
- Visiting the Department of Basic Education website and logging in with your exam number
- Collecting your results in person from your school or exam center

There is a charge of R1.50 per SMS or minute for USSD. Free SMS bundles do not apply.

- Wait for confirmation: You will get a response confirming your request.
- Receive your results: Within minutes, a follow-up SMS will provide your results.
- Visit your school/exam centre for official results starting at 8:00 AM (Western Cape at 10:00 AM).
- Check online at www.education.gov.za from 6:00 AM.
- Get results via SMS or USSD by registering in advance with your exam number.
- Step 1: Go to the official website of the Department of Basic Education (DBE)
- Step 2: Click NSC Exam Results under the Examination Results.
- Step 3: Enter Your Examination Number and click Search.
- Step 4: Your matric results will appear on the screen.

The results of candidates that registered for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) will be available at the examination centre where they wrote.
The Statement of Results for all candidates will be available as per the dates listed below, at the school/examination centre where the candidate wrote the examination.

Some candidate’s results may be excluded from the results published on this website because of technical reasons. If a candidate’s results are not on the website, the candidate should please enquire at the centre where they wrote or the district/provincial office.
Senior Certificate candidates can only rewrite their examination in May/June 2026.
National Senior Certificate (NSC) candidates can register for the October/November 2026 examination, at the nearest District Office, if you have not already done so. The closing dates for registration of NSC candidates who wrote the May/June examination is 21 August 2026. The registration requirements are on the reverse side of your Statement of Results.
